When should you use SafeCircle?

SafeCircle is built for situations where something feels wrong, the situation is escalating, or you need fast help and documentation.

SafeCircle is only activated when the situation is real.

Use SafeCircle when:

You feel followed or watched
Example: Someone has been following you for some time, you feel threatened, or the situation is escalating.

You fear assault, violence, harassment, or stalking
Example: Someone refuses to leave you alone, you feel pressured, or you feel unsafe on the way home.

You need to secure documentation
Example: A conflict is developing and you want to secure video, audio, and location documentation.

You feel that fast help may be needed
Example: You are alone in a serious situation and want your loved ones to be notified immediately.

Do NOT use SafeCircle for:

Minor everyday discomfort
Example: “It feels a little dark here” or “I feel a bit alone.”

Practical problems
Example: A flat bike tire, a delayed bus, a dead phone battery, lost keys, or a lost wallet.

Jokes or pranks
False alarms take focus away from people who genuinely need help.

Misuse may have consequences

Safety, Data & Responsibility

Trust through transparency

SafeCircle handles sensitive features such as location, notifications, audio, and video. Users must clearly understand what the app does — and what it does not do.

Does not replace 112

SafeCircle is a safety and documentation tool. In case of immediate danger, the police, ambulance services, or 112 must always be contacted.

Location, Audio & Video

When an alarm is activated, the app can share your location with selected contacts and verified helpers while recording audio and video documentation.

GDPR and deletion

Uploaded documentation is only stored temporarily and is automatically deleted after a maximum of 48 hours unless another lawful handling process is agreed or required.

Verified helpers

SafeCircle uses MitID, profile photos, and personal accounts to increase trust and reduce misuse.

The helper's role

Helpers don't physically intervene. They film the situation if it's safe to do so — otherwise they describe the perpetrator, the situation, and any vehicle involved, so there is documentation for the police.

Consent

Users must be clearly informed about data, notifications, recording, and sharing before the features are used.

Responsible use

Misuse, false alarms, and pranks may result in exclusion, blocking, financial consequences, and possible reporting to the police.

OUR STORY

The Story Behind SafeCircle

SafeCircle was founded by Lennart Nielsen and Nanna Nielsen.

We have grown children who are out in the world — at parties, in the nightlife, and on their own adventures. As parents, we felt a quiet worry every time they walked out the door. So many things have happened to young people in recent years, and we were uneasy every single time they were out. We didn't know of anything that could truly help if something went wrong.

That worry became the foundation of SafeCircle — an app that gives you peace of mind, no matter where your loved ones are.

SafeCircle was created to make it easier to get help, document incidents, and create greater safety — for young people and the ones who care about them.

Here you will find short answers to the most important questions about SafeCircle, the alarm, the network, and safety.

What happens when I activate the alarm?

The alarm instantly notifies everyone on your personal contact list and shares your live location with verified SafeCircle helpers nearby. At the same time the app automatically starts audio and video recording and uploads the documentation — encrypted — to a secure server, regardless of what happens to your phone.

Who receives the alarm?

Two groups receive the alarm: (1) your personal emergency contacts — family, friends, or others you have added yourself — and (2) verified SafeCircle helpers in your area who can freely choose to respond. All helpers are verified with MitID.

What does SafeCircle cost?

SafeCircle is free during the launch period. Once payment is introduced, personal access will cost 9 DKK/month or 99 DKK/year, and family access — covering up to 8 licences in the same household — will cost 69 DKK/month or 689 DKK/year. Payment is handled through the App Store or Google Play.

What is the difference between personal and family access?

With personal access you protect yourself. With family access you bring the whole family — up to 8 people — into one shared safety network, so everyone can activate an alarm and see each other's location in an emergency.

Who can see my recordings?

Only you. Recordings are encrypted and accessible solely via your personal secure link. SafeCircle employees can never see the content. Law enforcement can only access recordings via a lawful authority request in accordance with Danish law — not as a matter of course.

How long are recordings stored?

Recordings are automatically deleted after 48 hours unless you actively choose to save them. The encryption key exists only on your device — so once the file is removed, the content is inaccessible to everyone, including us.

How do I invite family and friends?

You can invite people via phone number — we send a link directly by SMS — or via email. It takes seconds and they join your network immediately.

How is an incident closed?

An incident is closed with your personal PIN code once the situation is under control and help has arrived. This notifies your network that you are safe — and stops the recording.

Are all helpers verified?

Yes. All SafeCircle users — both those who activate alarms and those who respond as helpers — are verified with MitID. That means you can always trust who is coming.

Is SafeCircle a surveillance app?

No. SafeCircle never records passively and never tracks your movements. Recording starts only when you activate the alarm yourself. There is no background tracking, no constant location monitoring, and no third-party access.

What happens if no SafeCircle users are nearby?

SafeCircle always works — regardless of whether there are other users in your area. When you activate the alarm, three things happen instantly: your personal emergency contacts (family and friends you have chosen yourself) receive an immediate notification with your live location, audio and video recording starts automatically to document the situation, and — if verified SafeCircle helpers are nearby — they are alerted as an extra layer. Your safety is never dependent on whether other SafeCircle users happen to be close to you.

Does SafeCircle replace emergency services?

No — in any situation involving immediate danger to life, always call 112 first. SafeCircle is a supplement to the emergency system, not a replacement. The app gets you rapid help from your network and documents the incident while you wait for or coordinate with the police.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. Cancel your subscription directly in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and you keep access for the rest of the paid period. You can also delete your entire account and all your data — see Delete account for instructions.
