Using the Alarm Function and Your Role as a Helper
SafeCircle Is Not an Emergency Service
In case of immediate danger to life, health or safety, always contact 112. SafeCircle is a supplement to public emergency services and cannot replace them. SafeCircle cannot guarantee that helpers are present in the vicinity, that a helper will respond within a specific time, that the app is available at the relevant moment, or that an incident can be prevented.
What Happens When You Activate the Alarm?
When you activate an alarm in SafeCircle, the following happens automatically: Your pre-approved emergency contacts receive a notification with your location, nearby SafeCircle helpers receive an alarm, the app begins recording audio and video, and your GPS position is updated continuously. Recordings are encrypted and stored on a secure server and are automatically deleted after 48 hours unless you actively choose to retain them.
Responsible Use of the Alarm Function
The alarm function may only be activated in situations where you genuinely feel unsafe, are in danger, or need assistance and documentation. You must not send false alarms, misuse the function for harassment, threats or similar, or use SafeCircle for unlawful purposes. False alarms consume helper resources and may prevent other users in genuine need from receiving help. Misuse may result in immediate account termination.
Accidental Activation
If you accidentally activate an alarm, you can stop it immediately in the app. Your emergency contacts and any nearby helpers will receive a notification that the alarm has been stopped. SafeCircle recommends that you then contact your emergency contacts directly to confirm that everything is in order. SafeCircle is not responsible for actions or costs incurred by emergency contacts or helpers as a result of an accidentally activated alarm.
Do Not Put Yourself in Danger
SafeCircle is designed to promote safety and documentation — not to replace the police or professional security services. Users and helpers must not seek confrontation or attempt to detain other individuals. Always prioritise your own and others' safety. If the situation escalates or there is an immediate risk, contact 112 and leave the scene if possible.
The Helper's Role: How to Help Best
As a helper, your job is to create safety and documentation — not to physically intervene. Avoid confrontations, and do not attempt to restrain other individuals.
If it's safe to do so: Record the situation on your phone. Audio and video recording is the most valuable help you can provide.
If recording isn't possible: Instead, describe the person's appearance (clothing, height, distinguishing features), what is happening, and any vehicle involved (make, colour, licence plate). Also note the exact location.
Stay at a safe distance and call 112 if the situation escalates. Your own safety always comes first.
Helper Status and Responsibility
SafeCircle helpers are voluntary private individuals who have signed up to offer assistance to other users in their vicinity. Helpers are not employees, contractors, agents or otherwise representatives of Safe Circle ApS.
Each helper independently decides whether they will respond to an alarm and in what manner. SafeCircle has no insight into helpers' actions and cannot direct them. SafeCircle is not liable for actions or omissions by helpers, including any harm to the helper themselves or third parties arising from the helper's response. Helpers act on their own initiative and at their own risk, motivated by a shared desire to help one another.
Geographic Coverage
SafeCircle is geographically limited to operating solely within Denmark.
Device Permissions and Technical Requirements
For SafeCircle to function optimally, it is required that you have granted the app permission to access your location (GPS), microphone, camera and push notifications on your device. Without these permissions, critical parts of the app will not work. You should also ensure that your phone is charged and has network coverage, as SafeCircle requires an active internet connection to be able to send alarms, share your location, and stream recordings.
User Responsibility
As a user, you are responsible for keeping the app updated to the latest version, maintaining up-to-date emergency contacts in the app, obtaining consent from the persons you add as emergency contacts, and informing family members covered by a family subscription when you cancel it.
SafeCircle's Limitation of Liability
Safe Circle ApS is not liable for harm arising from lack of network connectivity, technical failures in the app or on the user's device, a helper's failure to respond or their response time, an emergency contact's failure to respond, or incidents that could not be prevented. SafeCircle's total liability is limited to the subscription amount paid by the user in the preceding 3 months. Nothing in these terms limits SafeCircle's liability for personal injury caused by SafeCircle's gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
